BCM gospel choir at annual yard show 2009

The BCM Gospel Choir started in 2006 to serve the black student community at Cal.  At the time, Cal had no gospel choir.  BCM found a director and some eager freshmen students, Ashly Williams and Jarvis Givens, to launch this ministry.

Over the next four years, the gospel choir became one of the most successful outreach tools for InterVarsity at Cal.  Each year around 20-30 students participated in the choir.  Many of these students made first-time commitments or re-commitments to following Jesus.

The choir also became a central figure in the black student community at Cal.  It was invited to sing at the Black Graduation ceremonies, Black history month celebrations, high school senior recruitment events, black club day (the yard show), and other central community gatherings.  As a result, BCM was recognized as the organization of the year in 2007 by the African American Student Development office.
